Costello Tagliapietra

October 30, 2008 by sandy305

Costello Tagliapietra premiered its line in New York at the Spring 2005 collections and received rave reviews from editors as well as their peers. The Brooklyn-based design duo is made up of Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra.

Costello got his start in fashion by designing duds for actresses and musicians, but creative sparks flew when he met up with Tagliapietra. The guys had so much in common that they were bound to hit it off: both have a deep love of drapy, elegant tailoring, both were highly influenced by their grandmothers (who taught them the art of tailoring) and coincidentally both of their grandmothers worked for Norman Norell in the 1960s.

Costello Tagliapietra is known for their beautifully tailored dresses and constructed jackets that have particular attention paid to detail both inside and out and a focus on the draping of fabric that’s finished with timeless French seams.

While they have costumed everything from Nine Inch Nails concerts to the film Showgirls, their collections take a decidedly intellectual stance drawing inspiration from the words of Anne Sexton, the images of Francesca Woodman and the music of Kate Bush. Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez, Madonna and Cameron Diaz are all fans of the line.
