Vena Cava is one of New York fashion’s hottest and fastest rising star labels. The design team, made up of Parsons grads Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock, focuses on simple, elegant pieces that that are becoming easily recognizable due to their wearability and gorgeous hand-crafted details.
Critics applaud their unexpected color combinations (a great example is a printed aubergine silk georgette dress with an attention-grabbing belt in mustard yellow) and understated vintage-inspired pieces (think Katharine Hepburn in a cropped- bomber-and-trouser combo).
Though the girls are only 23-years-old, they have already shown three seasons at New York Fashion Week – nothing to scoff at – and have been featured in Vogue, Elle, WWD and The New York Times – something many veteran designers still only dream of.
In 2006, Vena Cava was awarded the Ecco Domani Award for Emerging Talent, which grants the label $25,000 to put together their next runway show at New York Fashion Week. With a growing list of over 150 private clients and retail venues in New York, Los Angeles and Japan, Vena Cava is definitely one label to keep an eye on.
