Mia Shvili designer Katia Gomiashvili launched her first collection in the UK in the Spring of 2006. The Russian luxury sportswear company has already gotten rave reviews for their velour jackets and super short shorts. They have even snagged indie darling Chloë Sevigny for their first ad campaign. Gomiashvili’s highly artist nature runs in her family – her father is a famous Russian actor and her mother a ballerina – so it’s no wonder that each creation is a piece of art.
Before launching her own label, Gomiashvili studied at the European University of Geneva, the University of Los Angles, London College of Fashion and the Surikov Art Institute in Moscow.
Not the average run-of-the-mill tracksuit, her designs are very feminine and cleverly structured to create a slender silhouette (and who doesn’t want to look thinner?).
In addition to a wide range of colors, she also has added abstract images, cartoon characters and quirky graphic symbols. One of her signature designs is handcrafted using original Russian techniques adding special pieces called “treasure” which are hand-beaded, printed and embroidered creating one-of-a-kind precious collectables.
