Simon Doonan, born on October 30, 1952 in Reading, England, is best known for his day job, creative director of Barneys New York, but he will always be thought of a wonderfully wacky, tenaciously English window dresser. Aside from creating some of the most memorable windows in history (the gold condom-embellished Christmas tree comes to mind) he is also quite the writer.
He is the bestselling scribe of “Confessions of a Window Dresser: Tales From the Life of Fashion,” “Wacky Chicks: Life Lessons from Fearlessly Inappropriate and Fabulously Eccentric Women” and “Nasty: My Family and Other Glamorous Varmints.”
He also pens the “Simon Says” column for The New York Observer and frequently contributes a to myriad of other publications and television shows including VH1, the Trio network, guest appearances on Tyra Bank’s reality show America’s Next Top Model and Full Frontal Fashion.
He lives in New York City with his partner, Jonathan Adler (famous NYC ceramist) and their Norwich terrier, Liberace.
