From their inception, As Four has been the underground sweetheart designers of the New York fashion scene with their circular themes and high fashion details.
The New York design quartet was originally made up Adi, Ange, Kai and Gabi, and the team made their runway debut in 2001.
The design collective won much critical acclaim from editors, and in 2002 they received the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Grant. They also earned a Fashion Group International Rising Star nomination. They are probably best known for their mainstream success with their circle bags of Sex and the City notoriety.
Their artistic outfits are more often than not based on the signature circular design, and their collections are available in such prestigious stores such as Barneys and Nom de Guerre in New York and Colette in Paris.
In 2005, As Four dwindled to three with the departure of Kai, which produced a bevy of reports about clashes between him and the other three designers over extended vacations and other “bad behavior.” Kai maintains that he left to pursue other business interests and is said to be considering an offer to become a New York-based fashion editor for an Eastern European magazine.
He is also hard at work launching a fashion design company called Myself. As for the remaining three designs – Adi, Ange and Gabi – they now call themselves Three As Four and are still dreaming up genius downtown designs and creative (albeit unconventional) ways to exhibit them.
