Chrome Hearts was established in 1989 and is known around the world for its unique rocker-chic jewelry in sterling silver, platinum and gold, leather clothing, a myriad of executive gadgets, striking hand-crafted wood furniture and most recently – top-of-the-line sunglasses.
Notable clients include a wide diversity of entertainers and celebrities that range from the Sex Pistols’ Steve Jones to Lee Ann Rhimes, Britney Spears, Julia Roberts and Cher. Fashion god Karl Lagerfeld became a Chrome Hearts devotee when he met co-designer Laurie Stark at a fashion show and she bent over in her leather pants to reveal the checkered letters spelling “karl” across her butt.
Despite – and perhaps in light of – Chrome Hearts’ non-traditional take on classic fashion the line received Accessory Designer of the Year in 1992, one of the most prestigious awards by the CFDA.
In 1999, Chrome Hearts was featured in the “Rock Style” exhibit at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. And, in 2000, Chrome Hearts was exhibited in “The Nature of Diamonds” at The National Science Museum in Tokyo. Headquartered in a 50,000 square foot studio/factory in Hollywood, California, this line is here to stay.
