Ashish Gupta has been donned one of the newest and brightest designers to ever emerge from India. After moving to London from New Delhi when he was 21, he attended Central St. Martins and has since proved that he can produce one of the most influential catwalks in the world.
His style has been described as Pop African with a smattering of Bollywood – and this is just the tip of the iceberg. He mixes bright colors and contrasting prints embellished with sequins and embroideries that are hand-stitched in his native India. His creations are playful and evoke a sense of humor not seen with many modern labels, and perhaps this is why he has been so successful in such a short period of time.
Since his debut collection in Fall of 2001, he has already drawn high profile clients like Jerry Hall, Keira Knightley, Kelly Osborne, Elizabeth Jagger, Mena Suvari and Sharon Stone. Gupta splits his time between London, Toronto, New Delhi and New York while his designs have become an international phenomenon; his label Ashish sells in London, France, Milan, Toronto, Australia, Greece, Russia, the Middle-East, Tokyo and Hong Kong.
